Sky TV's risky HD price reduction sees the largest increase in customers to date for it's high definition TV service.

Sky customers subscribing to its HD package will now get a HD box for free

Sky says that an extra 482,000 customers signed up for its Sky+HD service in the last three months of 2009, almost 300,000 more than in the same period of 2008.

New customers can currently get £25 in M&S vouchers and free standard installation when taking out a new sky channel package that includes the Sky HD channels.

Sky+HD and the HD Pack offer over 14,000 hours of HD programming a month across 37 HD channels. You'll also be able record & store up to 30 HD hours of your favourite shows.

Sky Digital's HD service launched in May 2006 and the service supports two HD formats, 1080i and 720p , via a standard HDMI socket.  For those that do not have a HD ready TV set, they can still get a Sky+HD box and watch Sky in standard definition and connect to a non HD TV using either a scart lead or standard TV aerial.
