Corporate Charter on 'Toe in the Water' Vendee Globe Yacht

Looking ahead to the unique opportunity that the forthcoming London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games are presenting to Weymouth & Portland as host venue for the sailing events has been the inspiration behind the conception and launch of Weymouth Charters.

Weymouth Charters www.weymouth-charters.co.uk is an online booking agency for any charter boats that wish to operate from the ports of Weymouth or Portland and along the Jurassic Coast. The range of craft is right across the spectrum from rigid inflatable boats (ribs) to tall ships and includes motor cruisers, yachts, superyachts, dive boats, fishing boats and even sea kayaks.

Local event management company, Creative Solutions, are the operators of Weymouth Charters and Managing Director Roy Griffiths says “The profile of both Weymouth and Portland has significantly increased since the announcement of the London 2012 Games and this areas involvement as the sailing venue.  As a local business man I have been increasingly inspired and believe there has never been a better time to maximise on the benefit and opportunity ahead of us.   As a keen sailor, with firsthand experience of how great our local waters and coastline are, I decided to develop and launch a charter fleet business where visitors can access, from a central point, a diverse range of vessels.  I have had a brilliant response from local boat owners right from day one of my research.

Clients so far range from -  sailors and non-sailors looking for a unique experience for their private celebration such as significant birthdays or daytime stag and hen party activities to corporate clients looking to get out on the water for staff reward days,  team building events or client hospitality days.

Tim Bareham co-owner of the luxury motor cruiser ‘Elstar of Weymouth’ an Aquastar 45 comments “When Roy approached me with this idea I instantly thought that the Weymouth Charters booking agency concept was a great idea and would allow me to further capitalise on the marketing and promotion of Elstar.”

It is also possible to book RYA Training Courses, such as Day Skipper, Marine Radio or Sea Survival courses through associate RYA Training Centres. There is also an array of specialist event days on offer such as treasure hunts, Jurassic Coast tours, wreck and smuggling tours to name a few.

Cllr Geoff Petherick, brief holder for economic development said “We are continually encouraging local businesses to look at ways they can take full advantage from the towns involvement in the 2012 Games and this is a first class example of what can be achieved locally.”
