Outdoor clothing store Whites based in Ramsbottom, Lancashire is pleased to announce it is now able to offer 20% discount on all outdoor clothing and equipment for those taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions.
Duke of Edinburgh (often abbreviated to DofE) started as a scheme for boys in the 1950's with Prince Philip as the chairman. The now well-established scheme operates throughout the UK and open to all young people aged 14 to 24 years old, regardless of physical ability. There are three levels of the awards – Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each level entails four 'sections' that all have to be completed to achieve each level of award.
Outdoor expeditions are an integral part of the programme designed to offer young people opportunities to expand their skill set and and develop invaluable personal skills for life and work. The expeditions can be gruelling and challenging as young people are invited to work together as a team to get through a few days of survival and physical endurance. They usually find themselves in the wilderness and mountain hiking is a common activity.
Whites outdoors store wants to do all it can to encourage young people to take part in the character-building scheme. Well-fitting durable outdoor clothes such as hiking boots, fleeces, base layers and waterproof trousers are essential. Safety equipment such torches, a survival bag and a whistle are also strongly recommended. Also included in the official D of E expedition kit list is larger items such as a tent, sleeping bag and Trangia stove for cooking evening meals. All this equipment and outdoor clothing necessary for the expedition of course needs to be carried in a rucksack that fits well in order to minimise discomfort and fatigue.
The Lancashire based store and online store can provide all the expedition items with personal advice to make sure the participants are the best kitted out for the exciting expeditions. Whites are actively assisting young people by offering the 20% discount on all kids, mens and womens outdoor clothing, hiking boots and equipment purchased for the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. Store owner Lee White explains:
