With the rise in popularity of smartphones, social networking website Twitter is reaping the benefits as more people use as a service to update the world with their statuses as the are on the move. It’s becoming a necessity to have a web-enhanced phone and many are recycling old mobiles to get aboard the Twitter mobile.
The micro-blogging website which was set up just four years ago has grown from strength to strength in recent times with the 20 billionth tweet being published on the site this past weekend. It’s a remarkable feat considering the website only hit the 10 billion mark a mere few month ago in March. It’s taken an incredible four months to double to figure.
The 20 billionth tweet was posted by a Japanese user by the name of GGGGGGo_Lets_Go who once realising he was responsible for the massive achievement tweeted: "Looks like I posted the 20 billionth tweet. I'm getting replies from people all over the world. It's scary. What are the chances? Maybe I'm going to die."
As more people join up to the website, mobile phone manufacturers are upping their game to provide users with the means to easily update their profile. Those without a smartphone are being left behind although many of them now sell old mobile phones to fund new Twitter equipped handsets.
And with new features being added, the service is getting bigger and better. Twitter has recently added a new feature which suggests to users which people they might be interested in following. The functionality is provided via an algorithm which influences the suggestions based of a number of factors including who the user currently follows and the type of people they follow.
