Stair lifts

There are several manufacturers of stair lifts and probably the best known name in the industry is Stannah. The Stannah company is a British company that has been in existence for more than a hundred years and has acquired wordl wide fame for its stairlifts.

While the company produces escalators and lifts, their proudest boast is that there are more Stannah stairlifts in homes all over the world, than there are from any other company. Not all staircases are the same, and some are located outside a building, which is why Stannah produces outdoor and curved as well as straight stairlifts. The company has sold more than 300,000 stairlifts to homes across the world since 1975. It is also possible to rent stairlifts as well, which could save an initial outlay.

Yet another, major UK manufacturer of stairlifts is Bison Bede, the company has been manufacturing and supplying stairlifts for more than 20 years. Bison Bede produce curved stairlifts, straight and outdoor stairlifts. Most stairlifts operate on a single rail on the staircase but Bison Bede’s Bison 80 lift works with rails on either side of the stair case.

The company also produces a lift that is aimed at those people who find it difficult to bend their knees, so the lift has a perch rather than an actual seat, the lift comes with a rechargeable batter pack, so it will not be affected by power cuts - such as disabled stairlifts.

There are other companies producing stairlifts and most of the better known names, such as Acorn, Meditek and Platinum, hail from the UK. Most companies will have installation and after sales service on their lifts.

Meditek in particular has a reputation for high safety levels with their lifts, while Platinum concentrates on producing only those stairlifts designed for curved staircases. Acorn and Brooks also produce stair lifts and like the other companies have an international client base.
