Tickets have now gone on sale for the 2012 Olympic Games, which looks set to be one of the biggest London attractions to visit next year.

Applications for some of the 6.6 million UK and European Union (EU) tickets can now be submitted to the official Olympic website and you have until April 26th this year to put in your request. And it doesn't matter whether you enter your submission now or nearer the deadline, as everyone is in with a chance.

There are also up to one million tickets up for grabs for people who live outside of the EU, meaning you could rub shoulders with visitors from around the world if you are lucky enough to win a seat.

All budgets are also catered for, with adult prices starting at £20 and special offers for those over the age of 60 and under 16 years old. If you would like to attend the opening ceremony, the lowest-priced ticket will set you back £20.12.

But if you are feeling flush, you could always fork out for the most expensive seat in the house at £2,012!

For the sporting competitions, 2.5 million of the tickets will cost less than £20 and two-thirds can be purchased for £50 or under. With 645 sessions across 34 competition venues and involving 26 sports, the Olympic Games could have you glued to London.

A 500-day Countdown Clock has also been set up in Trafalgar Square, which was launched on Monday (March 14th) to keep track of how long is left until July 27th 2012 - when the Games begin.

"It will be a daily and hourly reminder to everyone who visits Trafalgar Square that the countdown to the start of London 2012 has well and truly begun and that the greatest show on earth is soon coming to our country," said the chair of the London 2012 Organising Committee Lord Sebastian Coe.

If you plan to head to the capital for the 2012 Games, then why not take advantage of all the other things to do in London? You may even like to keep to the sports theme and go on a stadium tour of local football teams such as Chelsea, West Ham, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs.

If you or someone you love is a Chelsea fan, then you might like to book yourself on to a tour of Stamford Bridge and take a peek at areas usually reserved for the players, such as the home team's dressing room and the tunnel.

You can also discover the press and TV interview rooms and explore the managers' dugouts.

Football fans who don't support a London club but love the sport all the same may like to check out Wembley Stadium, home of the England team and major sporting events.

Other sporty London attractions include the tennis lawns of Wimbledon, the rugby pitch at Twickenham and Lord's Cricket Ground. All of these attractions offer tours to let you get a sneak peek into places you may otherwise only see on your TV screens.

With the Olympic Games running until August 12th - and with the Paralympics starting on August 29th - you may have plenty of time to discover lots of London's attractions.

"London will be a fantastic place to be in the summer of 2012 with a unique atmosphere and we look forward to welcoming the world to our city and to the UK. There is a huge range of tickets available, to see the best athletes in the world competing. My message is simple - be there," Lord Coe added.
