What temperature do you drink red wine at? Do you always serve it at room temperature? Do you ever take the temperature of the wine? You might be suprised to find out that you're probably storing your wine in the wrong part of your house. Wine should be stored at a constant, stable temperature and as most people keep their wine in either the kitchen or the dining room you'll find wine quickly can spoil if it's exposed to changes in temperature. A kitchen that gets hot when you cook doesn't do your wine any good at all! Avoid storing wine in sunny rooms too. These can quickly get very hot even in summer.

Pick a north facing room where the temperature doesn't fluctuate much - it doesn't need to have heating on either. Cellars have always been used in the past because they are constant temperatures with minimal temperature rises even in summer.

You can serve red wine chilled. It's fine to put a bottle of red in the fridge for an hour or two - if it's a rose wine then it can stay in longer than a rich full bodied red wine. You'll find that the wine warms up as you pour it, so you don't have to get obsessed about keeping it at a constant temperature once you've opened it. If you like red wine chilled then enjoy it! If you like it served at room temperature then drink it like that! But there's no harm in trying red wine chilled!
