The mobile phone users of the UK could breathe a sigh of relief as the industry watchdog Ofcom has come out with a decision to cut down the calling rates of the mobile phones. With this decision of the telecom regulatory of the UK, Ofcom, the network operators are bound to drop the the calling charges of the mobile phones by a considerable margin. The ace telecom agency of the UK recently made its decision public, according to which the calling rates of the mobile phones are bound to be drop by a margin of two-third. Ofcom has ordered the network operators of the country to cut short the cost they charge for connecting the calls.

The pronouncement was quite dramatic as the network operators of the UK are forced to cut down the so-called mobile termination charges. According to the current recommendation by Ofcom, the calling charges are bound to slash by 4.3p a minute to 0.5p a minute by 2014. BT and 3 agreed to abide by the decision and are looking forward to pass on the savings to their esteemed consumers with immediate effect. The current recommendation is also expected to cast its impact on the Mobile phone deals also.

John Petter, managing director of BT's consumer division stated that, BT will make sure that it pass on maximum benefit to its customers with cheaper calling rates to mobiles, letting in fixed price all-you-can-eat packages after which calling mobile phones would not be a matter of concern. Kevin Russell, chief executive of 3 UK, stated that the cost of fixed-line calls to mobiles has always been a matter of concern for the entire nation and the entity is looking forward to see a sharp fall up to two-third in this regard. The charges of mobile calls will also fall by a good margin, he added.

The current proposals have been originated by European Commission, which is seeking a reduction in call charges all across the UK.
