Summer is definitely coming in the shape of rainbow-striped undies for men - especially at specialist website Deadgoodundies.com.
The summertime stars of several collections are brightly coloured rainbow designs that always raise a smile. And just in time for the ‘Pride Season’…
L’Homme Invisible, Joe Snyder and Manstore all provide perfect examples of this hot new trend. The French take on the ‘arc-en-ciel’ is an elegant ombre effect in which the colours of the rainbow merge gently into one another. The Mexican view from Joe Snyder uses more solid, boldly coloured stripes, while Manstore, always the party animal, goes for metallic sparkle!
Rainbow stripes are strongly associated with the Gay Pride movement, which launched the rainbow flag in San Francisco in 1978, and now coincides with the start of the Pride season in the UK and around the world. Pride London takes place on July 3rd and Europride in Warsaw on July 17th.
But the magic of rainbows has for centuries inspired flags and emblems in countries as diverse as India, South America and Italy, symbolising everything from peace and prayers to politics and religion.
For 2010, DGU founder Adam Davies says the latest rainbow designs echo a new enthusiasm for colour in men’s underwear. “Women are positively envious when they see the breadth of colour and the gorgeous fabrics used for men’s designer underwear these days,” he says.
Deadgoodundies.com is a very media-friendly website with masses of great model and product shots covering a huge selection of men’s designer underwear and swimwear from all over the world. This includes ergonomic undies from Equmen (France), Obviously for Men (Australia) and Ergowear (Chile - as seen on How To Look Good Naked), plus über cool designs from European brands like HOM, Bruno Banani and Olaf Benz. There are classics like Sloggi and Jockey (though DGU have brought in their latest and best contemporary European colours and styles) and a whole raft of fabulous undies from South America - brands like Gigo and Gia, Mundo Unico and Clever Moda.
