Do you know about the Boiler Scrappage Scheme?
It's here. the new boiler scrappage scheme is now here. It was launched on 5th January, to help people replace inefficient boilers accross the country. The scheme is run by the Energy Saving Trust (ENT) and it can offer up to £400 to people whose current household have boilers that are "G" rated and are running at 70% efficiency or less. Many people don't even know how old their boilers are or what condition they are in. Getting a new and upgraded "A" rated boiler can help reduce your annual energy bill by up to £230. it can also help reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
So are you eligable?
The scheme is open to anyone in owned or privately rented accommodation
If you are a householder and under 60, and the boiler you are using is in working order, and it is the main boiler heating the home.
If you are a householder and 60 or over you can apply for the scheme regardless of whether the boiler you are scrapping is in working order. It does however still need to be the main boiler used to heat the home, and must still be connected to the wet heating system.
The Government has set aside £50 million for this scheme and it is expected to cover atleast 125,000 homes but this money will soon be allocated. This could soon run out though due to high demands.
Wales is set to receive £4.07m of funding from the Treasury and it will be up to the Welsh Assembly Cabinet (WAG) as to how this money is allocated.
Scotland have yet to introduce such a scheme.
