More than 350,000 households have already been switched to digital TV according to the latest report produced by the Digital Switchover Help Scheme.  The report also suggests that 150,000 households in the UK have benefitted from using the helpline.

The Digital Switchover Help Scheme is expected to help around 7 million Brits by the time the switchover has completed, 1 million of which will have new equipment installed in order to cope with the signal change.

In a process that started during 2008 and is due to complete in 2012, television services in the UK will go completely digital, TV region by TV region where the old analogue television signal will be switched off and viewers will need to convert or upgrade their existing tv systems to cope with the new improved digital signal whether that be through a new digital aerial or via one of the popular satellite or cable companies.

The digital switchover is currently taking place in the STV Central region where there are 5 transmitter groups that will switch from analogue to digital TV at different times, starting on 13 October 2010.
