Ralph Berry the Executive Councillor for Education and Children's Services for Bradford Council, Pam Essler, Vice Chair Bradford and Airedale NHS and David Scott, Head of Policy, Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc will be amongst the guests at Lister Primary School, Scotchman Road, Bradford on Monday July 4th at 2.00pm.

Project HE:RO™ – Health Engagement: Real Outcomes – was created as an innovative and preventative programme to combat the rising levels of inactivity and obesity amongst young children, before the age of eleven. Current concerns for children’s health make this a very timely intervention.

After extensive and successful testing around England and Wales HERO is coming home, to benefit the children of Bradford. Although aimed to combat inactivity and obesity headteachers report that HERO also impacts positively on attendance, attainment and the personal development of pupils – particularly vulnerable children from disadvantaged areas. OFSTED has already commented very favourably on the effect of HERO on children.

Who better then, than Des Hamilton, former Bradford City and Newcastle United footballer to provide the inspirational role model to help change children’s lives and aim for brighter futures and better health.
The Project HERO™ launch event will start at 2.00pm and will include some short videos showing Project HERO™ in action and words from Moira Hunt, the Lister Primary School headteacher who has appointed Des Hamilton to the position of Health Mentor. This role adds a completely new dimension to primary school staffing provision.

Graham Morgan, from Bingley, is the man who devised HERO and director of Evolve the Social Enterprise Company that manages the Project HERO™ programme. He will explain why HERO is so important for school children everywhere, but in Bradford in particular. Graham is a former PE teacher, was Bradford’s Football Development Officer from 1983-89 and then enjoyed a ten year career at adidas in grassroots sport and football signing a young teenager, David Beckham to help promote the brand.

Also backing Project HERO is Dr Dorian Dugmore a leading industry expert who has won Global and European awards for Corporate Health and Wellbeing programmes.
