Panic has ensued amongst the weight loss community, after the banning of tongkat Ali products such as Alitea and Alicafe manufactured by Power Tea, and other slimming drink products manufactured by Leptin Pharmaceuticals Limited.

After clinical testing, the slimming teas were found to contain regulated drug sibutramine, which can cause heart problems.

The products have now been banned by the Saudi Food and Drug Authority, and the ethics of the manufacturer brough under question. The sibutramine was not disclosed as an ingredient in the products.

Demand has surged for alternative weight loss teas such as Tava Tea that do not pose health risks to the consumer.
