The poll, by affordable gourmet meat retailer www.WestinGourmet.co.uk, was run ahead of British Sausage Week, a seven day celebration of one of the country’s favourite foods.
More than a third of respondents opted for the pop superstar, with soul diva Beyonce Knowles coming second with 24% of the vote. Recently married Katy Perry scored 18% of the votes with her new hubby Russell Brand picking up just 2%.
A surprise choice was Apprentice boss Lord Alan Sugar who scored 4% of the votes, with the British public clearly keen to chew the fat with the tough talking businessman.
Other nominees included PM David Cameron, pop starlet Pixie Lott and housewives choice Peter Andre.
But Wayne Rooney failed to score with the British public and was voted the celebrity people would least like to share a sausage with, closely followed by Simon Cowell and grumpy tennis star Andy Murray.
A WestinGourmet.co.uk spokesperson said there was nothing better than sharing British meat with a great companion.
He said: “British Sausage Week is a celebration of all that’s good about one of the nation’s favourite foods. There’s nothing better than great company to go with a delicious meal, so it’s no surprise that Cheryl came out top.
“She comes across as fun and easy to talk to so I can see why so many people, both male and female, would love to share a juicy sausage with her. The fact that she’s also stunning might have had a part to play in the decision too.
“Cheryl has been through a tough time recently after dealing with both illness and divorce, so maybe a hearty banger is just what she needs to cheer her up.”
He continued: “Wayne Rooney has faced a lot of criticism recently and whilst he may be a footballing idol to millions I think most people would just be worried that he’d hold out for a better offer when the bill came.”
