Opening on 20th September 2010, after an 18 month closure, overhaul and now under new ownership, The New Ellington in Leeds is a 35 bedroom, boutique, bespoke hotel. The luxury hotel property will house a destination restaurant, The Restaurant at The New Ellington, as well as The Gin Bar – the only one of its kind in Leeds.
The Restaurant at The New Ellington serves contemporary dishes made almost entirely with Yorkshire-sourced ingredients. Style-led and funky, with sumptuous velvet chairs and glass-bead curtains, the restaurant is primed to become a new Leeds hot spot.
Head Chef James Cooper leads the cooking. He is renowned for bringing success to a number of local restaurants including Middlethorpe Hall, The Bishops Table, Crathorne Hall Hotel and The Monks Table, and for his creative and contemporary blending of British and Mediterranean dishes. Menu items, including Pot roasted Helmsley Chicken, Smoked Loin of Venison, and Risotto of Butternut Squash, are made entirely with local ingredients delivered to the hotel daily.
The Gin Bar, unique to the county, serves 16 different varieties of gin amongst a cocktail menu of champagne and classic cocktails, martinis, fine wines, lagers, spirits and more. The signature cocktail, The Rhubarb Aviator, is a creative twist on the classic aviation cocktail and makes the most of Yorkshire’s indigenous rhubarb. Sat in soaring glass atrium, surrounded with black and white images of jazz legends and furnished with mismatched oversized arm chairs, The Gin Bar provides a stylish and discreet evening escape.
“The Gin Bar and The Restaurant at The New Ellington offer something new for Leeds,” said Stuart Ward, General Manager at The New Ellington. “The high quality food and the bar’s concept – unique to the region – were specifically designed to appeal to the local community. We’ve had a great deal of interest so far and we expect to become very popular with the after-work, evening and weekend crowds.”
Located in the heart of Leeds, both The Restaurant at The New Ellington and The Gin Bar are five minutes’ walk from Leeds’ train station.
The Restaurant at The New Ellington serves breakfast (7-10am), lunch (12-2.30pm), brunch (12.00-2.30pm Monday-Saturday and 11.30am-6.00pm on Sunday) and dinner (6-10.30pm). The Gin Bar, open from 11.00am to 12.30am, serves light gourmet meals– club sandwiches, homemade gnocchi, sausage and mash and more – alongside the extensive cocktail menu. It also serves afternoon tea with a twist.
