The extortionate salary of new Barclays Chief could keep babies of the UK in nappies for a year.


Earning a potential salary of £11,475,000 per annum, Bob Diamond will be responsible for clearing up the mess following the banking crisis. This ridiculous salary could be put to much better use and drive real results; by clearing up baby mess.


19,564 newborn babies in the UK could be kept in nappies for a year with Diamond's salary. With the average baby going through 3,528 nappies in their first year of life,  that's a whopping 2,875,940 packs of nappies or 69,022,556 individual nappies that could be bought with Diamond's cash.


The cost of nappies to parents of a newborn is a huge financial burden, and a burden that doesn't go away quickly, with most babies staying in nappies until the age of 3. This financial burden hasn't been helped by the dramas of the banking crisis over recent years.


According to a report by the BBC, parents in the UK have been left in "dire poverty" as a result of the banking crisis, with many being exposed to a procedure known as "setting off" which enables banks to take money out of their accounts without permission. A couple from Dundee told the BBC that they were unable to pay for their baby's nappies after their bank transferred money without their permission.
