Cardiff airport is an International airport serving the city of Cardiff and South, Mid and West Wales. Approximately 1.5 million people use the airport each year putting it firmly in the top 20 airport terminals in the UK.
The terminal building is located in the village of Rhoose, Vale of Glamorgan, 12 miles west of Cardiff city centre, the capital city of Wales.
Cardiff airport is a travel hub for bmibaby, who has the largest flight schedule at the terminal, with flybe, thomson airways and Thomas Cook all having quite large bases at the airport too. Flybe have expressed interest in becoming the largest airline at Cardiff after bmibaby have slowed growth as a direct result of the economic climate.
The nearest railway station is Rhoose, on the Vale of Glamorgan line. This was linked by a free shuttle bus until the service was removed in April 2010.
The nearest car parking facility is the NCP official long stay located just outside the main terminal. Official parking tickets can be bought at Cardiff airports main website.
On 11 March 2010, it was announced that the multi-million-pound extension had been approved by the Vale of Glamorgan council, work will start on the new facilities later on this year. Approval of the plans by the Vale of Glamorgan councillors came as plans for an improved bus service to the airport were announced. It will be a limited-stop service between Cardiff airport and Cardiff city centre.
