Passion for Fashion
Finally the hugely anticipated SS10 season is here for fashion followers. 2010 promises many new starts- and for the fashion worshippers who have been waiting for this moment to arrive since the first looks of the ready-to-wear collections featured in London Fashion Week, this year looks set to provide a fresh outlook on clothing, too.
Thanks to the varying cuts, fabrics and designs available to us, for the first time in a long while, we have the ability to choose our own style range without having a resonating trend being unflatteringly forced upon us. This year sees a rainbow of colours and materials; from the feminine pastels of Stella McCartney's collection and the fabulous masculine tailoring of Chloé, all the way through to the brightly coloured, punk- influenced clothing we have all grown to love from Vivienne Westwood. The choice available this season seems accessible to all.
Stella McCartney offers us nude satins in a range of cuts. Her summer sorbet-colour dresses and waist clinching jackets even offering a rare style of catwalk clothing that agrees with those of us with an hourglass figure. She has included all of the essentials of this year, and with firm nods towards the structured and ruffled trends, her feminine designs have catered for everyone.
Pioneers of ready-to-wear, Chloé, have concentrated on beautifully cut, masculine- styled, power dressing for this season- creating many of their clothes in stunning pastels and nude tones to both juxtapose with the masculine style and to accentuate the soft fabrics. Following the essential ruffled trend which promises to be huge this year, Chloé have incorporate all of the essential work, rest and play wardrobes into one gorgeous collection.
Balancing these beautiful soft fabrics on one side of the fashion coin, Vivienne Westwood offers us brighter, heavier materials in her SS10 designs. Vivienne Westwood's Alice in Wonderland inspired, fantasy print dresses stand out well in a season so powerful and her use of animal prints remind us that when worn correctly, they do not have to mean trashy. The punk infusions she always fabulously delivers are a confident statement which proves power dressing can also be fun, and is a lovely polar opposite to McCartney or Chloe's conservative designs.
Christian Louboutin follows the loud prints of Westwood within this season's shoes. Although the trademark red-lacquered, signature soles we have all come to know and love are going nowhere, we can wave goodbye to the black, patent leather uppers for this season to make way for stunning Aztec, safari prints.
Louboutin's collection this season is somewhat surprising based on the AW09 collection, but is a beautiful example of the brand's versatility. We are offered a mix of leathers, faux furs, beads and feathers within Louboutin's footwear- reflecting the huge scale of trends that are available on the catwalk as a whole for SS10.
Finally it seems that no matter what style we prefer or what shape we are, the runway of SS10 has catered for us- a refreshing change in the fashion world for the New Year.
